Etobicoke Youth Band Alumni

Come help celebrate our 35th Anniversary Legacy Concert by playing in the Alumni Band. Five years ago we had 80 in the Alumni Band. Let’s go for 100 this time!! You know me; Go Big or Go Home!! This year we have the advantage of all the alumni that currently play in the Toronto Concert Band. Some alumni are in university and just played a few years ago – no problem! Some haven’t played in over 10 years – no problem! It’s like riding a bike but you don’t use your legs! Some do not have an instrument – no problem! We will lend you one from John G!

Some of you will remember the 20th where we played Stick Figures and I thought it would be great to have 4 drummers play!! What could go wrong??? What was I thinking??? At the 25th I bought the Alumni a drink BEFORE THE CONCERT!! What was I thinking??? At the 35th we set a record for the largest ensemble at Koerner Hall! Mike was worried we wouldn’t fit on stage!! What was he thinking??

We are planning to play Quad City Stomp with Troy Sexton with Stomp drumming and Incantations by R. W. Smith. Matthew Morris had composed an awesome medley of hits through the decades that we will play with combined bands as well as a stunning O Canada to celebrate our country’s birth. We will fit on stage!!

My greatest memories of these concerts is reconnecting with the Alumni both musically and socially. I remember being blown away at the 20th of those of you that played and partied after. The 25th was more of the same, squeezing into that bar at the Novotel and the 35th how we filled the pub after the concert. Jon Fedorsen saying he was me when hotel management told us to be quiet at 5:00am.

I look forward to seeing you all later this month. Rehearsal is 12-2:00pm on Saturday April 22, 2017 at John G and on Saturday April 29th 2:30-4:00pm at George Weston Recital Hall. Concert at 7:30pm. Party after the concert!!
Let’s make some more memories!!
